Overworld Mining and Smithing Guide

Crafting turns Overworld’s caves into a personal armory. This mining and smithing guide covers the loop every Early Access player must learn: gather → smelt → forge → equip → bank.

Pipeline

  1. Enter caves with food and a serviceable pick (Iron Picks).
  2. Mine Copper, Tin, and Coal (then chase iron nodes as skills allow).
  3. Carry ores to a Furnace to create bars.
  4. Use an Anvil to forge weapons and armor.
  5. Equip upgrades; bank spares in the Silver Bank.

Watch the embedded mining and ore guide mid-page, then repeat the loop in your world. For keyed underground content, also read Mine Keys.

XP efficiency tips

  • Batch trips instead of banking one ore at a time.
  • Align mining blocks with Task Board jobs.
  • Keep inventory light—overloads mean lost ores on death.
  • Pair sessions with money runs from Make Money Fast when you need repair cash.

Iron and beyond

Iron is a common search (“where to get iron”). Push Mining via consistent cave clears, upgrade picks when unlocked, and follow community node spots carefully without griefing others. Gear outcomes feed Early Gear.

Combat synergy

Crafted armor lets Melee players stand longer and lets Rangers survive cave pulls. Revisit Combat Builds after each smithing milestone. Boss sets still trump basic crafts—schedule Goblin King nights via Dungeons and Bosses.

Safety in caves

Bring a logout plan, note escape paths, and avoid gear-risk PvP while hauling rare bars. Console and PC controls differ slightly; bind comfort keys in Controls and Settings.

Tick ore tiers on the Skill Checklist and schedule craft days inside Early Game Route. More guides await in the Guides Hub.

Every bar is a future pull you survive. Smelt with purpose.

Cave cartography

Name landmarks mentally: fork with mushrooms, lava lip, triple-node alcove. Named caves are easier to teach friends and reduce dependency on teleport scripts.

Smelting discipline

Smelt in batches that match inventory rows. Half-empty furnace trips feel productive but destroy tempo. Bring enough coal planning from the previous mine loop.

Crafting for roles

Forge with your party’s needs in mind. A ranger friend may need the next bow more than you need a third cosmetic helm. Trade generously; Overworld’s social fabric is part of the power curve.

Field notes from Early Access

When iron finally appears in your loop, resist forging everything into weapons. Diversify: keep bars for armor, tools, and trade. A party will thank the miner who can produce spare picks. Also practice smelting under time pressure before raid night so you are not learning the furnace UI while everyone waits. Calm crafts are fast crafts.

Closing checklist for guides/mining-smithing

Before you log off, write one sentence about what this page changed in your plan, one resource you will buy or craft next, and one friend you might invite. Then open a complementary link from the Related guides section and schedule a twenty-minute follow-up. That tiny paper trail keeps Overworld progress visible across busy weeks and patchy Early Access calendars.

Practical addendum

Label your ore stacks mentally by purpose: “armor bars,” “trade bars,” “experiment bars.” Purpose-driven inventories prevent panic forging. If a recipe fails, write the missing skill level into the checklist immediately. Future you will thank present you when the cave trip has a clear target instead of vague hope.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Overworld players.

Where do I smelt ores?

Use a Furnace in town crafting areas, then forge the bars at an Anvil.

What ores should beginners mine first?

Copper, tin, and coal to learn the loop before focusing on iron.

Does smithing raise combat power directly?

It raises power by creating better gear. Combat skills still need separate practice.
